MEENAN TRANSMISSION: THE PROCESS
This Ford F-350 is owned by a landscaping company and is used for extensive towing and plowing duty. Due to the severe use of these kinds of vehicles the transmission and other driveline components are more likely to fail prematurely. This specific one was used until it was no longer functional and the it was brought to Meenan Transmissions.
01
STEP 1
This is the first stage of disassembly of the Ford E4OD transmission. After removal of the transmission pan, the valve body and solenoid pack of the transmission are exposed.

02
STEP 2
Extreme temperatures and extensive slippage has caused damage to the transmission. This pan clearly shows extensive clutch material and metal contamination from internal component failure. This transmission requires rebuilding.

STEP 3
Here we can see the valve body, accumulator body, and solenoid pack assemblies are removed from the case.

STEP 4
Here we have removed the pump assembly from the transmission case. This part will now be inspected to ensure proper clearance. A difference of only a few thousandths of an inch are what separate a good pump from one that needs to be replaced. A pump with excessive clearance will not attain the correct operating pressures this will result in poor shift quality and premature failure.

STEP 5
This image shows the inside of the transmission The item in view is the center support. This item contains a bearing that is prone for failure and id replaced with every rebuild.

STEP 6
Here we see some of the first set of gears and clutch drums removed from the transmission case.

07
STEP 7
This clutch drum is a very good example of clutch failure. The clutches in their drum were slipping so badly that it cooks the transmission fluid onto the drum. Clutch drums can be so severely overheated during severe slippage it can reach temps high enough to weld parts together or damage the heat treating of the component. Requiring the component to be replaced.

STEP 8
Here are all of the parts that have been removed from the transmission case. These parts will be cleaned and visually inspected to ensure internal hard parts are acceptable to be reconditioned and installed in the transmssion case.

STEP 9
Extreme slippage and have caused the clutches pictured here to be incinnerated. The fluid from this transmission smelled so bad it required us to put a new air freshener in the office.

STEP 10
A major part of the rebuilding process is to decontaminate the internal parts. Having all the parts clean is critical for proper inspection. Removing all contaminants also prevents valvebody control valves from getting hung up and causing derivability problems or transmission damage..

STEP 11
Transmission case after cleaning: ready to have internal parts installed. Many of the internal parts are upgraded for improved durability.

STEP 12
Again, due to the extreme operating conditions and extensive contamination the original solenoid pack is replaced. Control solenoids are critical for proper function of the transmission. Here is a side by side comparison of the original solenoid pack (left) and the new solenoid pack (right.) Having the latest design solenoid pack is critical for the performance and durability of the transmission.

STEP 14
Heavy duty valve body modification package improves shift functions of the transmission. Including but not limited to shift duration, accumulation properties, torque converter lock up function, and pressure regulation improvements.

STEP 15
Transmission components being re-assembled into the transmission case. Once this process is complete it will be installed into the vehicle.
